Care Guide

Hälsa Trä utensils are crafted from natural wood and finished simply with food appropriate oil. Our wood is naturally dense and resistant to moisture, making it ideal for everyday cooking.

Over time, the wood may gradually deepen in tone and develop a richer appearance. This is a natural characteristic of real wood and reflects its authenticity. Each piece carries its own grain pattern and subtle variation in tone.

Before First Use

  • Rinse gently with warm water
  • Use mild dish soap if needed
  • Dry thoroughly with a clean towel

Your utensil is ready for everyday use once fully dry.

Daily Cleaning

  • Wash by hand using warm water and mild soap
  • Do not soak in water
  • Do not place in dishwasher
  • Dry immediately after washing

Prolonged exposure to water or high heat cycles can dry the wood over time. Hand washing preserves the smooth finish and natural strength of the teak.

After Cooking

  • Avoid leaving utensils resting in hot pans for extended periods
  • Wipe away strongly coloured foods such as tomato or curry shortly after use
  • Store in a dry, well ventilated area

Normal surface marks from contact with cookware are part of regular use and do not affect performance.

Refreshing the Wood

Over time, wood may appear slightly lighter or drier. This is normal and easily refreshed.

  • Apply a small amount of food safe mineral oil using a soft cloth
  • Allow the oil to absorb for several hours
  • Wipe away any excess
  • Let dry fully before next use

Occasional oiling helps maintain depth of colour and smoothness. Frequency depends on use and climate. For most kitchens, once every few months is sufficient.

Natural Variations

Wood is a natural material. Differences in tone, grain pattern, and subtle shading are not defects. They reflect the tree’s growth environment and cutting location.

With exposure to air and light, wood undergoes gentle oxidation. This often results in a warmer and more uniform appearance over time.

Hälsa Trä pieces are hand finished. Slight differences in oil absorption are part of this process and contribute to the individuality of each utensil.

What to Avoid

  • Dishwasher cycles
  • Prolonged soaking
  • Microwave use
  • Bleach or harsh cleaning chemicals

These conditions can dry the wood and reduce longevity.
